Why the number 12?
The number indicates perfection and completeness. There are also 12 hours, 12 months; The Bible talks about the 12 tribes and 12 disciples and 12 precious stones, among other things. Words such as: Adamskostuum (birthday suit), moederschoot (mother's lap), donderwolken (thunder clouds). They’re words that you would think have existed in the Dutch language for 400 years. Words that you would use to describe the Calvinistic character, such as; onderwerping (submission), schotschrift (pamphlet), muggenziften (to nitpick). Other words of the selection: knikkebollen (to nod, dozed off), oorverdovend (deafening, earsplitting), versjacheren (to squander), dwingelandij (tyranny), oneindigheid (infinity).
