Czar Peter, dimensions 5 x 19 m, digital printed vinyl banner stretched on frame, location next to Czar Peter House, Krim 23, Zaandam. Commissioned by Municipality Zaandam
In the city center of Zaandam, lies the former working class district: the Russian Neighborhood. De Krimp is the approach route to the most important cultural-historical attraction in the neighborhood: the Czar Peter House, a historical building where Czar Peter I of Russia resided in 1697 during his Grand Embassy. The building was constructed in 1632. Although he remained at the house only a short time, he would return a number of times, the last in 1717.
Inspired by decorations and images on old Dutch tiles around masonry fireplaces and stoves this banner uses images of typical industrial landscapes, windmills, houses, statues, souvenirs and 'historical' products such as cocoa, wood and grain of the area in the 17th century. The images of this design refers to a commission for a sketch design: Proposal for artwork at Koog-Zaandijk train station, 2016

installation with text, wall 1 (257 x 454 cm) + wall 2 (257 x 407 cm) / Rijnstate Hospital, Arnhem (NL)
This site-specific artwork for Rijnstate Hospital, with the title UBI PUS EVACUA means: “If there’s pus about, let it out!”
The installation is made up of fourteen Latin expressions about sickness and health, comprising robust lettering and a crisp palette. With these phrases, Khouw wants to grant the visitor access to the world of Latin, a dead language that in many specialised fields is still in daily use.

10.12.2014 -01.03. 2015, WEINER WALL, M4 Gastatelier / Marble Hall of the Tetterode Complex, Amsterdam
wall painting, 161 x 400 cm
WEINER WALL is located in the reception hall of the Tetterode building, a former type foundry in Amsterdam, now used as a living- and work space. The reception hall is an interior of architect K.P.C. De Basel. In 1993 the American artist Lawrence Weiner made an artwork on this wall with the text: As if it had not / As if it had not. The work was part of the hall for many years until the beginning of 2000, by accident, was painted over.
In XXXL, the letters of the word TOETERNIETOE are tilted, mirrored and turned upside down. I searched for a word that almost sounds like 'Tetterode' and found this word. It is a composition that expresses the name in another visual word.

09.08 - 21.09.2014, De Vishal, Haarlem
wallpainting / 518 x 270 cm / wallpaint + coloured vinyl foil
For this mural, I chose the words ‘HET LAM’, Dutch for ‘the lamb’. It’s a reference to the cathedral Sint Baafs in Ghent, where the altar piece by the Van Eyck brothers is housed (1432) which I greatly admire. The location of the Vishal is built against the St. Bavo in Haarlem, a reason why a connection to Ghent seemed inevitable to me.
The wallpainting is part of the exhibition KLAAR! with Sanne Bruggink, Kuno Grommers, Gracia Khouw, Robert Jan Leegte, Johan van Oord, Jan van der Ploeg Piet Tuytel, Fabian Westphal, Marije Vermeulen, curated by Tonneke Sengers and Frans Vendel

This mural is presented in a solo show with various series of paintings in Heden's exhibition space. The title 'MEDIAHEYHEY' refers to the overwhelming power of the media, the way in which goods are offered to us, how we as consumers are urged to take these goods.
Furthermore the exhibition consisted of paintings from the ‘Closed Circuit series’, ‘HEAY’ and small paintings of ‘Pring’ series.

OMELETTE OPTIMISM. The phrase 'you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs' certainly applies to the arts. To create one needs to break old habits and let go of all expectations, either the worldly, materialistic ones - especially your own expectations and principles are the hardest to adjust. And yet, not knowing what will come out of your effort and sacrifices, not knowing if your project will be rewarding in any way - artists keep on making artworks. Against all odds and common sense. That's what I call omelette optimism.
+ ETTEMISM is limited edition of 12 / 30 x 40 cm, digital print

18.06 -10.07. 2011, Arti et Amicitiae, Amsterdam / wall painting, 220 x 200 cm
One of the first things I did when I moved to Amsterdam was to apply for membership at the art-society 'Arti et Amicitiae'. Arti was founded in 1839, and not only did its grand stature appeal to me, I like the name too, as you can never have enough art-loving friends.
'Amicus verus est rara avis' means 'a true friend is a rare bird'. When I asked a lingust friend if he was familiar with the phrase I had googled up, he answered that he had never heard of it before, "... and I hope its not true, " he added.
