BIB Heusden-Zolder (BE) 2014
Public Art Commission 2012 - 2014, design for 82 glass panels for the renovated library building, in collaboration with DMT Architects, Antwerp (BE)
Commissioned by the city council to develop artworks for the glass panels, Gracia Khouw, a visual artist with a passion for typography, has been working on the design of the glass. Icons and pictograms used for genre designation in the book world were a source of inspiration and starting point for Khouw's designs. She made a separate design for each of the 82 glass panels. Khouw put together a collection of over 1200 existing and self-designed icons and pictograms. The icons are interspersed with poetic and evocative sentences from the favourite books of the library staff.
