The Still 2007, 4 min
4 short animations of mine will be presented at LOOP:
-In THIS WAY WHITE and THE STILL with a 'flowing' presence, or other ways of moving in a continous stream - like gliding, sliding, shoving, fidgeting, scouring down a river from left to right. It is a silent parade of letter shapes moving in ways that match their shape and sound.
-The opposite is the clip HAY with red background; where the endless collisions between form and counter-form on the screen push the letters up and down, left or right out of the screen. As in my paintings, rudimentary viewing principles are employed to understand and make visible our perception towards images. Looking at letters emerging, you can discern: H-A-Y-W-I-R-E-H-A-R-U-M-S-C-A-R-U-M-H-A-V-O-C. These films were made in Flash in 2007 and were projected side by side.
-In the short study Lines, Shapes and Visual Effects (2024), the (film) trickage embedded by default in Keynote (Mac) programme plays a major role. This programme is actually designed to create fast, slick (business) presentations; I use it to visualise and explore the movements and magnifications of lines, shape and residual form occuring in my mind. As a starting point, I applied a five English words beginning with the letter G: GAME, GIVE, GOAL, GOLD, GOOD. They are taken from the series HEEL KORT HEEL EVEN/CUMA KATA-KATA/HEAR HERE (2022-2023) a project with four-letter word images in which language is used as a framework and organising principle.
