GOJANG LIDAH: The Sway of the Tongue
Een kunstzinnig diner met Gracia Khouw, rondom haar Atjar tafelkleed met 213 woorden uit de Indo-Indonesische keuken. Gasten uit kunst, taal, voedsel en geschiedenis schuiven aan voor een zintuiglijke reflectie op cultureel geheugen. Tussen de gangen door worden verhalen gedeeld en woorden uitgewisseld.

Bradwolff Projects presenteert “Woven Stories”, een tentoonstelling over Indonesisch-Nederlandse identiteit binnen de hedendaagse kunst. Centraal staat de rijke en complexe geschiedenis van de Indonesisch-Nederlandse gemeenschap, gevormd door koloniale verstrengelingen, culturele uitwisseling en generatieslange herinnering.
“Woven Stories“ brengt beeldend kunstenaars, onderzoekers en culturele makers samen die werken rond thema’s als identiteit, migratie, verbondenheid en traditie. Met film, fotografie, batik, installaties en taal-gebaseerde kunst reflecteren de deelnemende makers op gelaagde persoonlijke en historische verhalen. Hun werk stelt vragen over wat het betekent een hybride identiteit te erven, en hoe verleden en heden elkaar op intieme en politieke wijze raken.
De tentoonstelling markeert tevens het 10-jarig bestaan van Bradwolff Projects, een kunstplatform in Amsterdam Oost. Al tien jaar biedt het ruimte aan kunstenaars die cultureel geheugen, immaterieel erfgoed en onderbelichte perspectieven in de hedendaagse kunst onderzoeken.

The Tapestry of Indonesian-Dutch heritage
Bradwolff Projects presents “Woven Stories”, an exhibition exploring Indonesian-Dutch heritage through contemporary art.
At its core lies the rich and complex history of the Indonesian-Dutch community—shaped by colonial entanglements, cultural exchange, and generational memory. “Woven Stories” unites visual artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners whose work engages with themes of identity, migration, belonging, and tradition. Through film, photography, batik, installation, and language-based art, the participating artists reflect on layered personal and historical narratives. Their works question what it means to inherit a hybrid identity and how past and present intersect in intimate and political ways.
The exhibition also marks the 10th anniversary of Bradwolff Projects, an art space rooted in Amsterdam Oost. For a decade, it has been a platform for artists exploring cultural memory, intangible heritage, and underrepresented perspectives in contemporary art.

An art dinner with Gracia Khouw centred on her “Atjar Table Cloth” and “Glossary Booklet”—a tablecloth printed with 213 Dutch words from Indo-Indonesian cuisine. Guests from art, language, food, and history gather around the table for a sensory reflection on cultural memory. Between courses, stories are shared and words exchanged.

This is a model of the BRADWOLFF PROJECTS exhibition space, which is a domed space of the surgery building in the former Burgerziekenhuis on the Linnaeusstraat in Amsterdam Oost. In 2006, I created the wall painting AMUT TUMA there / dit is een model van de koepelruimte van het chirurgiegebouw van het voormalige Burgerziekenhuis aan de Linnaeusstraat waar Bradwolff Projects haar tentoonstellingsruimte heeft. In 2006 heb ik daar de muurschldering AMUT TUMA gemaakt.
