Gojang Lidah or Roling the Tongue- The table cloth as conversation piece
New to the range: the S-size tablecloth measuring 140 × 180 cm. A compact version of the M (140 × 240 cm) and L (140 × 300 cm) sizes, featuring the names of spices, fruits, vegetables, dishes, fish, drinks and ice creams. The larger tablecloths feature the comprehensive list of 213 words; the S-size offers a carefully curated selection in a more manageable format.
Small-scale and exclusive
Each size is produced in a limited run of just 35 pieces. I place small orders so that I can closely monitor the quality. Each tablecloth is delivered in a gift box, accompanied by a booklet with explanations and translations of the names into English and Indonesian.
The story behind it
In 2024, I carried out research into ‘Indische’ (colonial words) in the Dutch language. In 2025, I sold out the first edition of the M-size range in a short space of time, and also designed the L-tablecloths, a number of which have been sold. Gojang lidah, slingeren met de tong - Het tafelkleed als conversation piece
Nieuw in de serie: het S-formaat tafelkleed van 140 × 180 cm. Een compacte versie van de M (140 × 240 cm) en L (140 × 300 cm), met namen van specerijen, vruchten, groenten, gerechten, vis, drankjes en ijsjes. Op de grotere kleden staat de uitgebreide lijst van 213 woorden; het S-formaat biedt een zorgvuldig gekozen selectie in een handzamer formaat.
Kleinschalig en exclusief
Elk formaat verschijnt in een oplage van slechts 35 stuks. Ik bestel steeds in kleine aantallen zodat ik de kwaliteit nauwkeurig kan controleren. Elk kleed wordt geleverd in een geschenkdoos, vergezeld van een boekje met toelichting en vertalingen van de namen in het Engels en Indonesisch.
Het verhaal erachter
In 2024 deed ik onderzoek naar Indische woorden in de Nederlandse taal. In 2025 verkocht ik in korte tijd de eerste editie van de M- formaat in een korte tijd, en ontwierp ook de L-tafelkleden waarvan er een aantal zijn verkocht. Nu is er, op verzoek, een kleiner formaat aan de serie toegevoegd. Lees meer over het project
